Law 4 Dementia Carers – Online Webinar

Together in Dementia Everyday (TIDE) and Making Space, working with the Justice Hub at the University of Manchester would like to invite carers of people with dementia to join our online Zoom webinar:

Law 4 Dementia Carers on Tuesday 23 June from 4.00 to 5.30 p.m.

This webinar is part of The Legal Education Foundation’s funded Law for Dementia Carers (L4DC) project. The project is helping carers to understand their legal rights and what the law might mean for them. The webinar is for carers and is based on the issues and questions that carers have raised from their day to day experiences. With Covid-19 changing the world and emergency legislation (the Coronavirus Act 2020) having been passed by Parliament, it is especially relevant to know more about the law and its potential impact on your role as a carer.

The webinar will be hosted by Anna Gaughan – Chief Executive, Life Story Network and tide and Peter Dillon – Executive Director of Quality and Compliance at Making Space. They will be joined by Neil Allen – Barrister, Senior Lecturer and Clinical Lead at The University of Manchester Law School who will provide expert legal information.

This webinar will focus on the legislation as it affects England and Wales. By joining this webinar you will hear information from legal experts about the law and welfare issues that may affect you in your role as a carer of a person with dementia. The webinar will cover 4 key areas:
• Early diagnosis of a cared for person
• Your caring role
• Cared for person’s best interests
• Residential and end of life care
There is acceptance that emergency legalisation is needed at this unprecedented time, however, we are concerned to understand how the health and social care aspects are being implemented locally. The webinar will be recorded and the anonymous feedback from carers participating in this webinar will contribute to influencing the 6 month review of the emergency legislation in the autumn. Your voice will ground the law with the real life experiences of carers living through this challenging time.

We do hope that you can join us and want to hear your questions and comments. To join the webinar please register in advance by clicking on this link:
