Do you care for people with dementia as part of your professional role? 

tide is offering two bespoke carer-led and co-produced training programmes. Focusing on strategies for dealing with Distressed Behaviours and best practice approaches of Life Story Work for Health & Social Care Professionals. 

Each course is co-delivered by tide's training team with long-established careers in dementia services and carers of people living with dementia who have lived experience. Throughout the course material, you will be able to draw on professional experience, speak with carers directly, and will be provided with a resource pack of provisions to support you in your role.

New research in 2022 post COVID pandemic has found that there has been a more than 50% increase in prescriptions for antipsychotics for people living with dementia in care homes. tide training for dementia professionals can help you reduce this in your service by moving into a relationship-based and person-centred care culture.

tide Training for Dementia Professionals is accredited by Skills for Care and counts towards your CPD. These programmes offer you the opportunity to find new ways of supporting those in your care.

Distressed Behaviour in People with Dementia 

Distressed Behaviour has been created from the well-established “Knowing Me Pro!” from together in dementia everyday (tide). This course focuses on People living with Dementia experiencing Distressed Behaviour. The resource is suitable for staff supporting those living in a care home, the community or in hospital.

The course focuses on distressed behaviour as a form of communication of an unmet need, enabling new approaches to support people with dementia with complex needs. Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of factors associated in assessing and creating personalised approaches to distressed behaviour, helping to enrich the lives of the people living with dementia and those who care for them.

Life Story Work for People with Dementia 

Life Story Work is a valuable tool in providing relationship based and person-centred care and the process of eliciting and capturing people’s stories about what matters to them – in the past, present and the future. It enables us to see people as individuals in the context of their relationships, enabling their rights to be respected and valued.

The training outlines Life Story Work as a versatile tool, easily utilised by professionals providing a rich history of information essential for appropriate person-centred support. By exploring the evidence base and philosophy for Life Story Work, you will understand the practical benefits for people with dementia, carers and paid professionals.

Training Modules include:

1. An in-depth Introduction and Carer’s Story

2. The Principles; Concerns, Consent, Confidentiality and the Outcomes

3. Fundamentals and Ideas for Getting Started, Practical Tips and Techniques.
